Office Of University Ministries Hosts Annual Faith In Practice Week

The office of university ministries held its annual Faith in Practice week, Sept. 16-20, to encourage, challenge and focus in on Union University students’ individual faith and walk with Christ.

“Faith in Practice is a special emphasis week that we set aside each fall semester to encourage our community to grow in their relationship with Christ and to take their next step toward a life that connects fully with God’s global purpose,” said Joe Ball, the director for discipleship and ministry in the office of university ministries.

The week kicked off with a Passion pop-up worship night on Monday night in the Carl Grant Events Center. Passion is a worship group existing to glorify God by uniting students in worship, prayer and justice for spiritual awakening in this generation.

This special night of corporate worship allowed students and members of the community to unite and worship God together.

On Tuesday of Faith in Practice week, there was a special time devoted to prayer.

Micah Fries, the senior pastor of Brainerd Baptist Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee, spoke in the G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel on the book of Jude for a thee-part sermon series on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday during the chapel services.

Fries, in his sermon series, challenged the students and Union community alike to place value in the gospel and to abundantly live out their faith.

“Let us hold on to the gospel. Let us contend for the gospel. Let us fight for the gospel and trust that God is able, sovereign and capable of leading us and blessing us even as we trust him in the middle of all of that,” said Fries.

The office of university ministries designed this week to be an opportunity for students to focus on their faith and an invitation for students to take their next step with Jesus.

“The OUM invited Micah to speak because we knew that he would really resonate with our students and would challenge our community by his faithful preaching of God’s Word,” said Ball.
