McAfee School Of Business Set To Host Second Annual Business Week

The McAfee School of Business’s second annual business week, a week consisting of three events that will excite and equip students to go into the workforce with confidence, will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 19, through Thursday, Feb. 28, and the entire Union University student body is invited to participate in the scheduled week of events.

“I am so excited for the events during Business Week,” Madison Hari, a sophomore economics major, said. “I am grateful that Union has events like this that allow me to learn more about my future career paths in business and meet business professionals.”

The first event to kick off the week is the Business and Young Professionals Career Fair taking place on Tuesday, Feb. 19, from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. The career fair will be located in the Carl Grant Event Center and will allow students to meet with local West Tennessee businesses to network and learn more about potential internships.

Students may register for the career fair by visiting www.hireuu.com.

The next scheduled event for the week is the Case Competition, beginning on Friday, Feb. 22, at 1:30 p.m. and lasting until Saturday, Feb. 23, at 5 p.m. The competition, sponsored by Jackson Energy Authority, theCO and the Jackson Chamber of Commerce, will allow student teams to compete for prize money totaling $5,000.

Teams consisting of five to seven students entering the competition will be presented a specific problem or situation on Friday afternoon and must then come up with a solution that also improves the community within 26 hours. Students will then present their ideas in a setting similar to “Shark Tank,” an American reality television series in which entrepreneurs present their ideas to five potential investors.

The event will take place at the Jackson Energy Authority Training Center, and the presentations will be given on Saturday, Feb. 23, beginning at 5 p.m.

Teams can register at http://www.uu.edu/events/business/.

The final event for the week is the Faith in the Marketplace luncheon, which will be hosted on Thursday, Feb. 28, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Carl Grant Events Center. This event will include a luncheon and lecture by Becky Norton Dunlop, the Ronald Reagan Distinguished Fellow at the Heritage Foundation.

“Business Week is about students demonstrating the many ways that faith and business fuse together,” said Jason Garrett, dean of the McAfee School of Business. “These events are a great way for all Union students to engage in our community.”
