Lady Bulldogs Make Comeback Win Against Mississippi College

On Friday, Oct. 4, at 6 p.m., the Lady Bulldog volleyball team faced Mississippi College at the Fred DeLay gymnasium in a conference match that went to five games, resulting in a nail-biting win for the Lady Bulldogs. Friday night’s match was a “pink-out” game, supporting breast cancer awareness.

All of the games were adrenaline-filled with Union winning the first set. Mississippi College came back to win the next two after the Lady Bulldogs gave up a lead in two consecutive games, making it imperative that the Lady Bulldogs win two straight sets to be able to win the game. The last set ended in a too close 15-12 in the Lady Bulldogs’ favor.

After Friday’s win, the Lady Bulldogs now stand 9-6 because of a great team effort and impressive individual performances from players such as Meghan Delaney, junior nursing major, who had 16 kills, and Emily Grace Calhoon, freshman applied linguistics major, who had 12 kills.

After the game, Alyssa Tatsch, junior film studies major, commented on the game.

“It was pretty hectic, but it showed how much grit we have as a team,” Tatsch said with excitement. “We’re just a family. We throw people in, and they always get the job done. We fight for each other.”

And though the game was tough and close, Tatsch was right about the team fighting for each other, having to win two games back-to-back.

Tatsch commented on the difference between this year’s season compared to last, which was only a six-win season.

“[The game] just feels calm,” Tatsch said. “Like we’re all relaxed with each other. We’re all comfortable playing with each other and for each other.”

The difference can clearly be seen, and Union’s season is already much improved from last year’s.

The Lady Bulldogs’ next game will be on the road against Harding University. The game is on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m.
