BulldogConnect: Union’s New Networking Tool

On Wednesday, Feb. 20, Union University’s Vocatio Center released a new networking service to current Union students and alumni called BulldogConnect.

The service is specially catered to Union students to help find work and internships during and after their time at Union, and the alumni who have chosen to join this network are given an opportunity to help fellow Union students with career advice and to share job or internship opportunities in their various job fields.

Alex Huguenard, director of Union’s Vocatio Center, explained why BulldogConnect was created and what their hopes are for this new networking tool.

“For the vast majority of positions, 70 to 80 percent will never get posted on a public forum,” said Huguenard. “When seniors are about to graduate and start looking online for jobs, this means they are only looking at 1 in 5 jobs that are actually offered, which means that those are also the most sought after jobs because they are visible to the public.”

This new networking service was made to broadcast that 70 to 80 percent of un-advertised opportunities, and for students who are searching for opportunities after college, this networking tool is a great asset in helping them find directions for their career path. After creating a profile and indicating fields of interest, students are able to find alumni connected in those same fields.

Lyndsey Welch, a junior TESOL major, is excited about the new networking service and looks forward to using it as she searches for a career.

“I am excited for the chance to speak with Union alumni about how they are using what they studied in school for their actual careers,” Welch said. “To have connections with people who went through similar course work gives me more clarity into how my own career might play out.”
