Lady Bulldogs Soccer Team Looks To Next Season

The Lady Bulldogs soccer team fell to the Montevallo Lady Falcons 4-0 on Saturday afternoon to end the regular season.

The game started as a defensive matchup with neither team scoring until halfway through the first half at the 20’ mark. This was the lone goal of the half.

However, the Lady Falcons scored a flurry of three goals through the second half to put the game away. The Lady Bulldogs had a few good looks to score but struggled to convert in the attacking third. This is largely due to the lack of experienced forwards on the team.

Despite the outcome of the game, the players never showed any signs of negativity or unwillingness to fight until the end. This has been a point of emphasis for the team as they moved later into the season.

“At the beginning of the season we came out pretty monotone,” said Tiffany Linser, sophomore intercultural studies major. “We have learned to continue to fight no matter what the score of the game is or the outcome. We’ve learned to fight through it all.”

Because this was the final game of the season, the seniors were recognized along with their families. Hannah Hilburn, senior physical therapy major, Hannah Hewett, senior nursing major, Madison Studstill, senior biology major, and Georgia Hopkins, senior athletic training major, were all given recognition after the game.

Union ended the season with a 0-14-1 record under first-year coach Scott Sinclair. While this isn’t an ideal record to start with, Sinclair remains hopeful about the growth of the team. He is going to use the off-season as a chance for the girls on the team to rest while he recruits.

“We need to improve on our finishing and final third decision making,” said Sinclair. “Our only forward got injured pre-season, so we had to get players that have never played up front to play that position and take over that responsibility. They gave it their all, and we’re proud of them.”

With Sinclair moving into his first off-season of recruitment, we should see a sizable improvement in depth at the forward position and more talent added to the team for next season.
