Men’s soccer team defeats Trevecca Trojans

The Union men’s soccer team traveled to Lebanon to play Trevecca Nazarene University Aug. 7, defeating the Trojans 4-1.
Midfielder Diego Santos, senior business administration major, scored the first goal for Union six minutes into the match with an assist from forward Caleb Mills, junior business administration major.
Just 18 minutes in, Mills scored a goal from seven yards out, making that the second goal for Union.
Union managed to shut out the Trojans in the first half of the game, making the halftime score 2-0 Union.
The second half began with Santos shooting from the right side into the left corner of the goal, his second goal of the game.
Twelve minutes later, Rob Ward of Trevecca Nazarene scored the team’s first and only goal of the game, robbing Union of a shutout game.
In minute 81, forward Alex Pratt, sophomore business administration major, dribbled from left box to center to score the last goal of the game and set the final score at 4-1 Bulldogs.
Union outshot the Trojans 5-4 in the first half, but Trevecca outshot Union in the second half 17-6 for a total of 21-11 over Union.
Forward Matt Kesler, freshman philosophy major, played the full 90 minutes in the goal for Union. He racked up eight total saves, including a penalty kick in the first half.
The game made Union’s current standing 2-0 for this season after a 3-1 win over Cumberland University Aug. 7.
The Union men’s soccer team will play its first home game of the season against former NAIA rival Lee University at 7 p.m. Sept. 13.
