Music Monday: Why Post Malone Has Earned His Place At The Top

I’ll never forget waiting for hours to see Post Malone perform live at “Memphis in May” on May 7, 2018. Every millennial and many adults in today’s country have heard the work of Post Malone. With record hits such as “Congratulations,” “Fall Apart” and “Sunflower,” it’s no wonder he was able to reach such a high status in the music business in such a short amount of time.

I’ve always enjoyed Post Malone’s work even before he reached the top of the music game. Songs such as “White Iverson,” “Money Made Me Do It” and “Go Flex” were definitely amongst my top viewed tracks driving to and from wherever I had to go for the day. After attending “Memphis in May” and hearing Post Malone woo the crowd with his hype and heartbreaking lyrics, I left with a since of urgency to listen through his entire library as soon as I got to some sort of speaker or radio to stream it.

What makes Post Malone’s music stand out amongst other hip hop artists is not only the diversity in his writing, but his lyrical charisma. His lyrics attain so much power and are very relatable to the audience’s mood and emotions. His songs have a unique flow as well, leaving them stuck in your head.

“In order to find yourself, who you really are, you got to be with yourself; you got to hang with yourself,” said Malone. “I’m just myself. That’s the best way to put it.”

That is pretty much the best way to put it. Not just to summarize Post Malone as a whole, but to show what makes his art stand out among other artists.

All of these rappers and hip hop artists try way too hard to make an image for themselves that don’t truly mirror who they are as a person, and their lyrics never have any type of emotional attachment to the audience. Post Malone, however, writes what is on his heart and speaks on issues that everyone struggles with in their daily lives.

If you’re able to relate to a crowd on an emotional level, then you have found the key to success in music. Rhythm and instrumentation obviously play a huge part in a hit track or album, but it’s the lyrics that relate to the listeners that make it so special. Post Malone is one of the few artists who can claim both of these characteristics in his music, which is why he’s consistently at the top of the charts.
