Bulldog Built: The Only Way To Get A Staff Parking Sticker

As students, old and new, get into the rhythm of the school year, many may be trying to add a new type of fitness to their schedule. Bulldog Built, the Union wellness center’s new fitness challenge for students, is taking over campus, and it is the one way that a student could get fit and obtain a staff parking sticker- the infamous blue staff parking sticker that many students have envied, and rightfully so.

Each journey is different, and this fitness challenge offers rewards along the way- the ultimate goal being a staff parking sticker. A variety of fitness challenges have to be completed in order to get the sticker and a treasure trove of other goodies.

“We wanted to create an incentive-based fitness regimen that allowed students to see tangible progress in their own fitness journeys,” said Jonny Wilson, the director for campus recreation.

The staff parking sticker is highly coveted all throughout campus. It could not only prevent tickets from piling up on a poor student’s windshield, but it would also bring the status of being one of the most fit people on campus.

“Oh man, I’m going for that staff parking sticker,” said Levi Shaw, senior sport management major. “Everything else is just icing on the cake!”

There is gold status, the one with the parking sticker prize, and there is silver and bronze. Gold has the toughest challenges, but silver and bronze are not far behind in their difficulty. To beat the gold standards of the bulldog built challenge, one must accomplish the following:

  • Run one mile in under 6 minutes.
  • Guys must do 60 push-ups in a row while girls must do 30.
  • Guys must do 20 pull-ups in a row while girls must do 9.
  • Perform 50 2M box jump-overs in a row.

These four challenges make up the endurance and stamina sections, but there are eight more categories that have to be completed in order to win gold status. Other sections include strength, balance, speed, power, agility, coordination, flexibility and accuracy.

By pushing students beyond what they think they can do, this challenge is not just of physical strength but of mental determination and willpower. In the quest for a staff parking sticker, many will attempt the challenge, but only a handful will accomplish the feat. Will you be one of them?
