At 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026, Union University executives cut the ribbon to dedicate a brand new Memphis campus for adult studies in Cordova, TN.
The dedication ceremony took place during the fall meeting of the board of trustees and hosted Union staff and students.
“This campus stands as a reminder to all of us, and to all who pass by, that Union University is committed to providing Christian, higher education, to students across the state of Tennessee,” Jeff Perkins, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Union University said.
Union partnered with Bellevue Baptist Church to buy and transform the property into facilities for the Memphis College of Urban and Theological Studies (MCUTS) and other programs like master of Christian Studies and an accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
The building was used for the Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary, which has since gone online.
The staff and students moved from the Germantown campus were also in attendance at the dedication ceremony.
“For years, the university has a privilege to walk alongside this community, partnering with church and schools, have healthcare organizations, businesses and civic leaders who work every day to make Jackson, Germantown, stronger, and now, Cordova and Memphis, your family,” Andre Jones, Campus and Facilities Director for Memphis said.
Jones also mentioned how the students coming to the Memphis campus have different lives than a typical undergraduate. These students come from full days at work and have families waiting for them at home.
The Memphis facilities have been built to accommodate family and work needs like including childcare rooms close to classrooms, and being located close to neighborhoods.
“This represents an investment in students who will take what they learned here, and carry it into their churches, families, neighborhoods, communities and places of ministry throughout this region and beyond,” Jimmy Myers a senior Urban Theological Studies Major, said.
After the dedication ceremony, attendees were invited to tour the new campus to see that the new facilities are fully operational for classes.
