On Friday night, music band Music by Kota entertained downtown Jackson at the Liberté Social Garden at a free event hosted by the Gylden Bake House.
This event promoted small businesses in the Jackson area, selling coffee and treats from Gylden Bake House and a small pop-up from Sonder Finery and to fund future local events at the Liberté Social Garden.
“I love going to outdoor events,” event attendee Jared Besse said. “Live music is one of the great ways just to get to hang out with friends and to have a shared experience, especially on a gorgeous night like tonight; it is awesome.”
Guests to Liberté Social Garden walked the brick paths around patches of greenery, or sat on oversize beanbags and chairs around the small city lot.
“Any sort of live event or public thing is always good to bring people from the community, from Union, from wherever, especially if there’s coffee and food,” Besse said.
Although many chatted and sipped Gylden coffee, the majority of the audience listened to the arrangement of originals and covers from the band.
“Downton is really diverse,” Tristan Howard, downtown local business owner, said. “And the more that we offer events like this, it’ll bring people from all over the spectrum together.”
Howard and her friend Emily Taylor, remarked how surprised they were to see lots of unfamiliar faces in the crowd,
Children’s happy shouts occasionally interrupted the songs and chatter, as they drew chalk pictures on the sidewalk around the fountain or ran on the brick paths between guests.
“Having lived in other cities and little communities and having seen the potential of what Jackson could be, this is just the building block, in what I can envision downtown Jackson,” Taylor said.
The audience ranged from older couples sitting in camping chairs, to young mothers dancing with their toddlers and some Union students.
