The Logos Reopens And Provides Online Resources For Students

At the end of the semester when the Logos would normally be filled with students preparing for final exams, Union University’s library is providing online resources that students can utilize from home and preparing to reopen on Friday, May 1 for students to study while maintaining social distancing.

Online resources including eBooks, databases and videos through Films on Demand are available for students. Any student who needs assistance with research can set up a research coaching Zoom appointment with the library staff.

“We highly recommend setting up a research coach appointment if you have research questions,” said Amber Wessies, instruction librarian at the Logos. “Students can also reach out to librarians and library staff via email or our work phones with specific library questions. We are more than happy to help students with their questions.”

The website also has a COVID-19 research guide that provides information about COVID-19 and some additional resources for students. The staff is working on some finals-specific tips for students that will be available through the guide as well.

All of the online resources available to students can be accessed from the home page of the library website.

The Logos has offered curb-side delivery of physical books until it reopens, so students can continue to check out materials they need to complete their coursework.

The library’s opening on May 1 will come with reduced hours for the protection of library staff. It will be open 7:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 7:30 a.m-5 p.m. Friday, noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and closed Sunday. The staff will be making sure that students maintain a distance of six feet from other students.

“We do expect library users to practice social distancing, but the library is designed in such a way that the six-foot rule should be easy to observe,” said Melissa Moore, the director for library services.

Moore also noted that the book return system has been changed in order to provide a way for books to be decontaminated before being re-shelved. Books and DVDs can be returned to the designated space near the Circulation Desk in the library or to room D-54 in the Penick Academic Complex before May 26.

“Due to the pandemic, we are forgiving all fines accrued during this semester to make things as easy on students as possible,” said Moore.
