Dr. Don Carson Set To Speak At Ryan Center Bible Conference

The Spring 2020 Ryan Center Bible Conference, featuring Dr. Don Carson, who will be teaching from the book of Revelation, will be held March 6-7 in the Grant Center.

The Ryan Center Bible Conference is an annual event open to students as well as the public. The attendance for the conference is much higher this year than in the past, with attendance at around 130 people coming from six different states. This year, the conference will focus on “The Defeat of the Unholy Triumvirate.”

Carson is an Emeritus Professor of New Testament at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and is the President of The Gospel Coalition. He is also the author of several commentaries on the Gospels of Matthew and John and theology book How Long O Lord: Reflections on Suffering and Evil. Carson is known for the studies he has done on the book of Revelation, around which the conference is centered.

Ray Van Neste, the dean of the school of theology and missions and professor of Biblical studies at Union University, is especially excited about the event because Carson was one of his professors and is one of the most well-known, leading Biblical scholars today.

“This is one of the biggest events we’ve had in a while, and it is a significant thing for both the school of theology and missions and for Union,” said Van Neste. “It’s one of the ways we serve churches by providing Biblical training. It’s part of our mission.”

The conference will include sessions from Carson as well as parallel sessions that are led by Brad Green, Mark Catlin, Jacob Shatzer and Hal Poe. These sessions will include topics on how to study the Bible in general but will also focus on parts of Revelation that Carson discusses.

“This is a great opportunity for students to hear someone like Dr. Carson,” said Van Neste. “Part of what we want to do is give students the opportunity to hear leading voices from other places, and he is one of the most respected Biblical scholars around today.”

The conference is free for students, but a $40 registration fee will give all other attendees a spot at the conference as well as meals throughout the weekend. Find out more and register here.
