Freshman Friday: Victoria Clayton

Victoria Clayton, political science major, plans to become a lawyer and a judge in Tennessee. Her love for politics and the legal system started at a young age.

“When I was a little kid, my mom would listen to political talk radio on the way home from school … My mom bought me a handheld radio so I could listen to the political shows. It was my Christmas gift,” said Clayton.

One experience that influenced her choice of major was visiting the U.S Capitol. She met the speaker of the house and a Tennessee senator during her tour. Clayton was also able to speak with some of the Capitol interns, whom she greatly admired.

“I just remember that always making an impression on me,” said Clayton.

Upon graduation, she plans to attend law school at the University of Memphis, which is in her hometown. Her mother is an alumnae, and Clayton would like to go there to share that connection.

After working as a lawyer, she hopes to be a judge. Clayton cares about where she will be located, while serving judicially.

“I don’t want to be a judge where there isn’t any crime,” said Clayton.

She has a heart for communities and wants to serve where there are needs. Recently Clayton was awarded Miss Collierville Community Volunteer of the Year by the city of Collierville, Tennessee.

Currently, Clayton works as a retouch and makeup artist for J&B Photography in downtown Memphis, Tennessee. She has worked there for a year and a half and enjoys using her artistic ability and her skills in photoshop.

On campus, Clayton is involved in Kappa Delta Sorority and Women’s Cooperative.

For the next three years, she plans to spend her time focused on academics, leadership and practical skills.

“I would like to graduate with a high grade point average for law school, become involved in Kappa Delta leadership and gain life experience,” said Clayton.
