Union University’s Residence Life hosted the Super ResLife Party on Tuesday night, Jan. 27, from 7-9 p.m. in the Bowld Student Commons. This event was the conclusion of the Union Cup competition for the 2025-26 academic year.
Super ResLife Party, a life-sized board game inspired by “Super Mario Party,” gave each residence building one final opportunity to earn points toward the Union Cup competition. The event was designed to combine friendly competition with community-building across campus.
With just an hour and a half to make it across the giant game board, buildings competed in mini games to earn coins, which could be exchanged for stars. At the end of the event, points were tallied based on the total number of stars and coins collected by each team.
This marked the first year Super ResLife Party made its way into the rotation of events that Residence Life puts on for students. Dylan Runions, assistant residence director, led the development of this event.
“I’ve had this dream for over a year, and it’s finally happening,” Runions said.
The freshmen men of Grey residence building won both the Super ResLife Party and the Union Cup. Marcel Van Der Wel, senior business administration major and resident adviser for Grey, said the victory was especially meaningful.
“I was in Grey my freshman year, and now being a senior, being able to look back and see the four years I’ve been here, Grey means a lot,” Van Der Wel said. “We’ve always been so close to winning the cup, but to actually bring it home, to win this year was incredible. So proud of all the guys in the building.”
Despite weather conditions, Super Res Life Party had a strong turnout, showing how Union Cup events encourage dorm buildings to spend time together and bond over a shared goal of earning points towards the Cup.
