Back to Work: Bulldogs And Lady Bulldogs Are Back In Action

The Union University Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs were back on the hardwood this past Tuesday, Feb. 2, for the first time in ten days, where the teams took on the Buccaneers of Christian Brothers with the Women securing an 84-41 victory while the men fell just short, losing 70-66.

The Lady Bulldogs got to work quickly, jumping out to a ten-point lead in the first four minutes of play before eventually going on a 20-2 run to start the game. The Lady Bulldogs rode that high out until the final buzzer, securing the 43-point victory.

Lady Bulldogs long-time winning coach, Mark Campbell, when asked about this being their first game in ten days due to the snow, was grateful and optimistic for his team moving forward.

“We had a lot of illness and injuries over the last ten days,” says Campbell. “I would actually tell you I’m grateful we haven’t been playing. I think we needed a reset mentally as well.”

He went on later, talking about the positive takeaways from this game as well as the break. He implemented the idea that, despite the sickness, injuries, weather or any other hindrances, as believers, we should trust God’s sovereignty in everything. No matter the circumstances, everything will work out the way it is intended.

The men’s team took the court right after the women’s team wrapped up. The Bulldogs found themselves down early in the first quarter, which continued into halftime. To open the second,  the Bulldogs were down by ten. Back-to-back buckets from Terrence Ringo Jr., the 6’6’’ slashing senior from Evansville, Indiana, put the Bulldogs within single digits early in the second half. That single-digit deficit seemed to be the name of the game for the majority of the rest of the game, where the Bulldogs ultimately fell just short, losing 70-66.

Both the Men’s and Women’s teams will be traveling on Feb. 6 to Alabama, where they will play the Falcons of the University of Montevallo.
