On Monday September 8, Union Residence Life hosted its annual progressive snacking event on campus. Students were invited by residence directors and faculty in residence to visit their homes and receive homemade snacks.
Mary Vandersteeg, a senior film studies major, attended the event with her roommate and chose to spend time at the Bowld Patio’s build-your-own s’mores station, where students gathered to fellowship and roast marshmallows.
“This is my senior year. I’ve only done progressive snacking one other time. That was my freshman year,” Vandersteeg said. “I can connect the two experiences because now I have a clear schedule enough to go to progressive snacking compared to the last two years. It just seems like the perfect time to do it.”
While building her s’more, Vandersteeg shared about her favorite aspects of the Progressive Snacking event.
“I love the s’mores, mostly because you can just hang around by the fire pit and just talk to your friends and just have a chill night with no distractions,” Vandersteeg said.
In the Ayers quad, Assistant Residence Director Leah Sutton met students and served Puppy Chow, a snack made with peanut butter, chocolate, cereal and powdered sugar.
“I think it’s fun to do it on this side of it because it is such a lowkey event. There’s no pressure,” Sutton said. “You can just walk up, grab a snack and leave, or you can stay and talk.”
Sutton also participated in progressive snacking as a student during her four years of undergrad at Union.
“I really just have loved getting to go around and meet faculty in residence,” she said.
The night concluded with a premiere for the hype videos that each dorm building produced for the Union Cup competition. The men of Jarman won the contest, earning points towards the yearlong competition.
