At 7:00 p.m. in the Bowld Student Commons gym, students gathered for Union University’s annual GO Trip team announcement.
Over the years, Union has sent nearly 100 students across the country and around the world to participate in short-term mission trips. These trips will take place during spring break as well as in the weeks following spring graduation.
The trips are organized by Julie Bradfield, director of student discipleship and engagement, and the Global Leadership Team.
“Once we receive the applications, I read through every single one,” Bradfield said. “We not only begin praying for the applicants but evaluate their strengths and how they fit with team needs.”
When applying, students list their top four choices for GO Trip destinations and explain why they feel called to those places. After deliberation and prayer, students learn where they will serve.
Students of all backgrounds and fields of study filled the Bowld, eager to find out each of their assignments.
Emma Bogle, sophomore mechanical engineering student, served on a GO Trip last year and is now ready for her second opportunity through Union’s program.
“It really helped me see that the Great Commission is to all,” Bogle said. “I’m excited to see where I will be serving Him next.”
After serving alongside the Italy team, Bogle shared how the trip impacted her life after returning home and the importance of a life on missions. She now serves on the Student Leadership Team.
Some students are returning participants, while for others this will be their first trip. Teams will go through training and team building exercises after Christmas break in preparation for their departure.
“That is the benefit of going on a team,” Bradfield said. “You’re not figuring it all out on your own, you’re taking big steps and doing all these things with other people.”
