After three months of prayer, review and discussion, Union University’s Board of Trustees selected Lisa Williams Rogers as the new chairwoman. Rogers is the first woman in Union’s history to hold the position.

Rogers, who has served on the Board for 15 years, held previous positions on the Executive Committee, Search Committee and Transition Committee as well as being an Officer for the Board.

Rogers was recommended by the Nominating Committee, led by Norm Hill, previous Chairman of the Board.

“As immediate past Chairman of the Board, I am very pleased to pass the gavel to Dr. Rogers,” Hill said.

As a member of the Jackson community, Rogers will be able to aid Oliver in the remainder of his transition.

“Union has been blessed with quality board leadership over its history. I am most grateful for Norm Hill’s service as chair these past three years. Lisa will carry that tradition of strong leadership forward,” Union President Samuel W. “Dub” Oliver said in a recent Union news release.

Rogers graduated from Union in 1983 and currently works for the Jackson Clinic as a physician in obstetrics and gynecology.

Rogers said she is excited to take on this leadership role at a school that she has been heavily involved in.

“My life has been blessed in many ways by my years at Union, and I’m excited about this opportunity to serve my alma mater in this way,” she said.

Those involved with the election process describe Rogers as a committed Christian with a wealth of experience and excellent service.

Hill, whose term ended in April, expressed his enthusiasm in her selection by stating her qualifications.

“She is a confident leader and a quick thinker who speaks carefully and thoughtfully.  She is a wise and caring person, qualities that are also evident in her medical profession.  All of these characteristics will serve the Board and Union well during the course of her term,” he said.
