Aquatic center hours changing to allow evening swim times

The Union University Aquatic Center is a shared pool that not only students use, but also swim teams and members of the community are able to utilize. To accommodate increasing demand, the pool hours are changing.

“Over the last couple of years we’ve received many requests from students, staff, and faculty regarding more convenient afternoon and evening pool hours,” said Blake Pennington, director of wellness services and student life, “more specifically, hours over lunch as well as an earlier evening shift.”

The new hours will be:

Monday: 6 – 8 a.m., 11-1 p.m., 4 – 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday: 12 – 2 p.m., 4 – 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday: 6 – 8 a.m., 11 – 1 p.m., 4 – 6:30 p.m.

Thursday: 12 – 2 p.m., 4:20 – 6:30 p.m.

Friday: 6 – 8 a.m., 11 – 1 p.m., 3 – 5 p.m.

Saturday: 3 – 6 p.m.

Sunday: 2 – 4 p.m.

The pool will be closed during chapel hours and will also be closed during Union holiday campuses closures.

It is a goal for the new hours to be able to accommodate more students, staff and faculty in order to better accommodate the Union community.

“We have already seen a 50% increase in usage, so we’ve been really excited about that,” Pennington said.

The Jackson Gators Swim Club will change their swim hours in order to accommodate the evening swim time that has been added.

The aquatic center is not affected by the new regulations in the auxiliary gym requiring periodical checks of identification cards. ID cards will be checked upon entering the pool area at all times.

Guests are able to utilize the pool with a guest pass for $5 per day. The pass can be used to access the aquatic center, the wellness center and the activities center. An additional sponsor from the Union community is required and a waiver must be filled out.

All who use the pool are requires to “have an orientation, fill out a health questionnaire and sign a waiver” according to the rules listed on the aquatic center web page.
