The Lady Bulldogs softball team traveled Monday to St. Louis, Mo., to play the Washington University Bears, winning both games 5-1 and 10-2.
The first game against the Bears started off slowly for both teams.
The score remained 0-0 until the bottom of the fourth inning, when the Bears hit a home run, making the score 0-1 in the Bears’ favor.

The Bulldogs came back full force in the top of the sixth inning, when senior shortstop Sam Giesler hit a home run to left field, putting the Lady Bulldogs on the scoreboard and tying the game 1-1.

Next, freshman infielder Caylee Crews hit a single, allowing freshman catcher and third baseman Reagan Schrader to advance to third base and freshman utility player Summer Cross and senior first baseman Stephanie Saunders to score.

The plays brought the score to 4-1 Lady Bulldogs.
Union would continue to dominate into the top of the seventh inning when freshman catcher and third baseman Amanda Chandler singled through the left side, allowing her teammate, freshman pitcher Cheyenne Mauldin, to advance to second and setting up Saunders to score a run.
The Lady Bulldogs defeated the Bears 5-1.

The second game started off with Lady Bulldog sophomore pitcher and outfielder Alex Williams, who hit a home run into left field, making the score 1-0 Lady Bulldogs.

The Lady Bulldogs remained on top through the top of the fourth inning when Giesler singled through the left side, allowing Crews to advance to third base and setting up Chandler to score the second run.

Next, Saunders singled to left field, advancing Giesler to third and allowing Crews to score the third run for the Lady Bulldogs.

Giesler scored the third run in the top of the fourth inning.

The team scored a total of seven runs in the top of the fourth inning and two runs in the top of the fifth inning, climbing ahead of the Bears 10-0.

The game ended after the fifth inning when the Bears would only score two runs, to give the Lady Bulldogs an eight-run advantage.

The game automatically ended there because of the NCAA run rule that states that if a team is up by eight runs after five innings, the game is called.

The Lady Bulldogs also traveled Saturday to Florence, Ala., to face Gulf South Conference-ranked No. 11 University of North Alabama Lions, losing the first game 0-6 and also losing the second game 2-5.

The Lady Bulldogs’ overall record is 19-18 and 13-17 in the conference.
