Union graduates largest class to date Saturday

Russell D. Moore will be the keynote speaker Saturday at Union’s 188th annual spring commencement, which will host the largest graduating class in Union’s history, according to a news release.

About 660 graduates will receive their degrees during Saturday’s ceremony.

Moore is president-elect of the Southern Baptist Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission and will assume the role of president June 1, the release states.

Moore is dean of the School of Theology and senior vice president for academic administration at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He also is author or editor of five books, including “Tempted and Tried,” “Adopted for Life” and “The Kingdom of Christ.”

He earned a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from the University of Southern Mississippi. Moore also earned a master’s in divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and a doctorate in philosophy from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

The ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. on the Great Lawn.
