According to Mike Gardener of MG Construction, the building is planned to begin construction within the next two weeks.

The store will be completed between three and four months after construction of the building begins. The Starbucks will include both a drive-through and limited seating space.

There is both excitement and disappointment about the location of the new Starbucks. Some are dissatisfied with the placement of the new shop and concerned about possible traffic issues that may occur when the store opens.

“It is the worst placement of all time,” said Jacob Hayes, senior ministry and missions major. “The intersection could not be any more busy already, and I think that the drive through would only work to prevent me from driving into my own university because of the back up of cars.”

This will be the fifth Starbucks location in Jackson and the second with a drive-through window. The other location with a drive-through will be located on North Highland Avenue, where renovations of an existing Captain D’s building is already in progress.

The other three locations include one on Vann Drive, another inside Target on Stonebrook Place and a third located inside a Courtyard Marriot on Campbell Oaks Drive.

“I don’t get why they are opening a Starbucks while we already have a good coffee shop on campus,” said Emily Davis, senior accounting major.

With the reevaluation of food services in discussion, some students are still wondering about the future of other vendors near and on campus.

“My question is,” said Peyton English, senior social work major, “why we don’t have a Chick-Fil-A on campus, but we are getting a Starbucks.”
