Casey Jones Hullabaloo

Today, October 17th at 7:00 pm, the Student Activities Council (SAC) will host the annual “Casey Jones Hullabaloo” at Casey Jones Village. The event is free of charge and will feature live musicians and bands from Union University and also from the Jackson area. Among these bands will be Reed McLean’s band called Plaid Reed and the Sidewalk Couple, Shane Caver’s band called The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly and Coopertheband. There will be various fall snacks and activities for everyone who attends.

SAC has been hosting the Casey Jones Hullabaloo for over five years now, and each year their goal is to bring in new talented students from Union and put them in the spotlight. Each SAC activity like this is created with a desire to build unity and fellowship among the students at Union University.

“Our mission is to build community among the student body,” said Reeves Garret, president of the Student Activities Council and senior biblical languages major. “We want to encourage friendships among the students and showcase the bands.”

Garret said he believes this is one of the most fun events of the year, and that students will enjoy the fall atmosphere, fires and chance to visit with each other. There will be s’mores around campfires, lots of hot chocolate, and lots of different kinds of cobbler. In celebration of fall, there will also be pumpkin painting. According to Garret, each year brings new ideas for Fall crafts and games.

The event will be held in the Casey Jones Village Amphitheater. A popular location for parties and shows, the Casey Jones Village started as a tiny shop called Brooks Shaw & Son Old Country Store with the motto “Mom’s Home Cookin’ and Pop’s Old Country Store.” In the following years it became the Casey Jones Village and also one of the top ten tourist attractions in Tennessee.
