Baseball and softball to face University of Alabama Huntsville this weekend

As their conference season starts to come to a close, the Union baseball and softball teams prepare to travel and compete against the University of Alabama Huntsville Chargers this coming weekend.

The Lady Bulldogs have a tough weekend ahead of them as they take on the No. 2 team in the GSC, UAH. The Chargers enter this weekend with an overall record of 32-9, while the Lady Bulldogs follow with a record of 25-15.

“We feel like we can compete with anyone in our conference,” said Reagan Schrader, junior psychology major and utility player for the team. “Playing UAH this weekend will also get us ready for the conference tournament.”

The Lady Bulldogs hope to come out as a strong hitting team against the Lady Chargers.

“We hit really well last weekend against West Alabama,” Schrader said. “If we carry that over we will be able to compete with UAH this weekend.”

The teams kicks off the weekend with a double header starting at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 17, and finishing the series on Saturday, April 18 with  game time set for 12 p.m.

The Union baseball team also takes on the UAH Chargers this weekend.

The team hopes to change the course towards the end of the season and bring home a couple wins from this weekend.

“Our focus for these games is to stay focused and play hard,” said Teddy Christie, sophomore education major and pitcher for the team.

The Bulldogs begin the series of games this weekend with an overall record of 7-32 for the season, while the Chargers hold a record of 32-6.

“Our record may not be as good as we want it to be, but we still need to play as hard as we can and never give up,” said Skyler Harrison, freshman athletic training major and pitcher for the team.

“We are playing one of the best teams in our conference,” said Daniel Mathis, junior biochemistry major and outfielder for the team. “I believe we can compete if we relax and play each game like it’s our last.”

The series starts on Friday, April 17 for the Bulldogs with a double header beginning at 3 p.m. and then a final game on Saturday, April 18 at 12 p.m.
