Union presidential search continues

The nine-member presidential search committee has been actively and prayerfully searching for the next president who will serve as Union’s next leader and President David Dockery’s successor.

The chairman of the Board of Trustees, Norman Hill, serves with University Provost Carla Sanderson, who is serving as vice chairman.

“We received a very large number of recommendations, and we have tried to do our very best to follow up on all of those recommendations as we seek to discern God’s will for the next president of Union University,” said C. Ben Mitchell, Graves professor of Moral Philosophy. “We have read impressive resumes and heard inspiring stories of leadership.”

Dockery said the committee has been able to work through a lengthy list that includes more than 100 nominations.

“My sense is that they are now focusing on a list of 10 people or less,” Dockery said.

As president, not much has changed for him. Most of what Dockery has been doing for the past several years is what he is still doing now.

“The biggest difference is that I am not planning for or dreaming about the future,” said Dockery. “I am working hard to help us finish the time well, trying to prepare the campus for the new leader.”

Students also are still able to get involved by praying and fasting for the next man who will serve as president. Students can still fill out a time on the prayer and fasting calendar at https://uu.edu/president/search/prayer.
