Audrey Couch, freshman English major, is finishing her first semester at Union.

Couch, originally from Jackson, decided to stay close to home for college because she gets the “best of both worlds.”

“I looked at colleges out of state, but this just felt the most right,” Couch said. “I feel like God has a purpose for me here. I’ve been able to really use my gifts and talents here. I like being close to my family.”

Couch is a member if the Zeta Tau Alpha women’s fraternity. She decided to rush because her mother was a member of ZTA.

“I like the sisterhood,” Couch said, “[and] knowing there is a group of people who love you and care about you. It is a special bond that you share only with those people.”

Along with being in a sorority, Couch spends her time playing music. She has been playing in the college band at Englewood Baptist Church since the summer.

Couch has also been posting covers of popular songs to her YouTube channel. She has over 10,000 subscribers, and her cover of Coldplay’s song Paradise has over one million views.

“[The channel] started as a joke,” Couch said. “My first video is really embarrassing. I did it to prove a point to a friend.”

After posting her first video, Couch was receiving a lot of positive feedback, and she decided to continue posting songs.

Couch now has close to 30 videos on her channel, a mix of pop song covers and original songs.

“[Music] has been an outlet throughout my life,” Couch said. “It is something that has always been in my life. I have been singing so as long as I can remember”

She is planning on posting more videos, including more original songs.

“It has been on my list to get the other ones up,” Couch said.

Couch is excited about continuing her time at Union.

“[I’m excited for] being shaped into who I am supposed to be, figuring out who I am.”

In the video above, Couch performs a Taylor Swift cover with her ZTA sister Ruthie Johnson, junior Christian studies major. To view more videos by Audrey Couch, visit her YouTube channel.
