Union University’s Debate team received several awards at The National Debate Tournament Apr. 10-13 at Middle Tennessee State University.

Union won numerous individual and team awards for the season: novice sweepstakes, varsity sweepstakes, pro sweepstakes, scholastic sweepstakes, scholastic sweepstakes and the most prestigious award, The Founders Award.

“The Founders Award is for first place overall, which for most of the season, we were in second place for this,” said Allison Pulliam, sophomore double major in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science. “We did not clinch first place until the last regular tournament of the season at Tennessee State University, so it was a huge effort at the end from every member of the team to earn that award.”

More than 30 schools participated in the tournament, including schools from Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, Washington, New York and more.
