Five groups compete in 2013 Variety Show

The 16th annual Variety Show hosted by the Student Activities Council awarded Zeta Tau Alpha best overall performance as a large group April 20.

Performances took place at the Carl Perkins Civic Center in downtown Jackson.  Five groups of independents and Greeks competed in choreography.

The Hopeful Rascals performed “Through the Decades;” Lambda Chi Alpha performed “Aliens and Westside Story;” Zeta Tau Alpha performed “Phantom of the Opera;” Kappa Delta performed “Roaring Twenties;” and Chi Omega performed “Annie.”

Before intermission, the Student Athlete Advisory Committee featured a special performance based on one of Taylor Swift’s latest songs, “We are Never Ever Getting Back Together.”

Peter Riggs, junior philosophy major, and Anna Beard, junior advertising major, served as emcees, providing comical dialogue before each performance.

Prior to the awards, The McMillionaires performed, led by Zac McMillan, junior history major.

Afterward, the following awards were announced:

  • Best Musical Selection: Chi Omega sorority
  • Best Costume: Zeta Tau Alpha sorority
  • Best Choreography: Tie between Chi Omega sorority and Zeta Tau Alpha sorority
  • Best Overall Performance, Small Group: Lambda Chi fraternity
  • Best Overall Performance, Large Group: Zeta Tau Alpha sorority
