The Union University Lady Bulldogs softball team hosted No. 25 University of North Alabama March 16, with the Lady Bulldogs winning the first game 2-1 and North Alabama winning the second game 2-1.

In the first game, Union and the University of North Alabama remained scoreless until the top of the fourth inning, when North Alabama scored a run.

The Lady Bulldogs then scored their first run in the bottom of the fifth inning, when freshman Reagan Schrader hit a home run to left center field, putting Union on the scoreboard and tying the game 1-1.

The next four innings remained scoreless for both teams.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, the score still remained 1-1 when senior Tobie Joy singled to right field, permitting senior Stephanie Saunders to score the final run for the Lady Bulldogs and giving the women a 2-1 victory over University of North Alabama Lions.

In the second game, the Lions scored their first run in the top of the second inning and a second run in the top of the third inning.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Joy was first to bat when she got hit by the pitch and was walked to first base. Junior Shelby Lamb was second to bat for the Lady Bulldogs when she hit a double to second base, causing senior Tobie Joy to be thrown out at third.

Last to bat for Union in the bottom of the fourth was sophomore Alex Williams, who grounded out to short stop, bringing the scoreless inning to a close.

The next two innings remained scoreless for both teams until Lamb, junior out-fielder, singled up the middle to allow Joy to score the first run for the Lady Bulldogs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Neither team would score again during the game. The Lions would take the win over the Lady Bulldogs, 2-1.

The team’s record stands at 10-8 overall and 5-7 in the Gulf South Conference, and the following game March 20 was a double header against Delta State University.
