‘Dawgs record goes to 9-31

The Union Bulldogs traveled to the Florida-Georgia line in Valdosta, Ga., April 20-21 to face the Valdosta State University Blazers, with Union losing the first game 4-3, the second game 5-4 and the third game 7-5.
“We had several opportunities to win all three games. We jumped to the lead in all three games but our bats quieted down in the crucial middle innings,” said senior business administration major and first baseman Kody Pinson.
Pinson added, “We hope that we can end on a good note without weekday games and in the weekend series with Christian Brothers.”

The Bulldogs’ overall record stands at 9-31; their conference record is 2-21.

In the first game, the Bulldogs scored their first run in the top of the third inning when junior outfielder Wacey Russell scored the first run for the Bulldogs.

The run brought the score   to 1-1.

The Bulldogs scored in the fourth inning when senior outfielder Colton Speed flew out to right field, allowing sophomore right fielder Hunter Smith to score the second run of the game.

The score was now 2-1 Union. In the fifth inning, the Bulldogs scored when Smith singled to right field allowing Pinson to score, bringing the score to 3-1 Union.

However, the lead did not last for the Bulldogs. In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Blazers trailed past the Bulldogs, scoring two runs; the final score was 3-4 Blazers.

The second game of the series against the Blazers began when Martin singled to right field, allowing infielder Justin Bryan to score the first run of the game. The score read 1-0 Bulldogs.

The Blazers scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning however, the Bulldogs battled back in the top of the fifth inning, with junior outfielder Kyle Bryan scoring the second run for the Bulldogs; the score was now 2-3 Blazers.

The Bulldogs would gain two runs in the top of the sixth inning, then turn around and give up one run in the bottom of the seventh inning, losing to the Blazers 5-4.

In the final game of the series the Bulldogs scored five runs but it was not enough to hold off the Blazers. The Bulldogs fell to the Blazers 5-7.
