Cross country teams finish well at invitationals in Louisville, Memphis

The Union University women’s and men’s cross-country teams competed in the Rhodes College Invitational in Memphis Sept. 28 and the Greater Louisville Classic Oct. 5 in Louisville, Ky.

The women’s team posted a fourth place finish in the Rhodes College Invitational and a ninth place finish in the Greater Louisville Classic.

The men’s team also posted a fourth place finish at the Rhodes College Invitational and finished in third place in the Greater Louisville Classic.

At the Rhodes College Invitational, the Union women put up a team time of 2:00:46 to finish.

Beth Wilson, graduate student in business administration, was Union’s top finisher, in third place with a time of 23:10.

The Union men’s team finished the race with a team time of 2:19:26.

The team’s top finisher was senior pharmacy major Anthony Aguinaga, in fifth place with a time of 26:51.

Both Union teams finished fourth ahead of fellow Gulf South opponents University of North Alabama and Christian Brothers University.

At the Greater Louisville Classic, the women’s team posted a ninth place finish, with a team total time of 1:38:55.

Wilson was Union’s top runner once again with a time of 19:32, putting her in 36th place overall.

The men’s cross country team finished third at the Greater Louisville Classic.

Aguinaga was the team’s top finisher for the third straight race, coming in sixth place with a time of 26:50.

Freshman Garrett Wilson also finished in the top 10 with a time of 26:42 in tenth place.

The team total time was 2:16:46.

Union’s cross-country teams will next compete in the West Georgia Invitational Oct. 12 in Carrollton, Ga.
