Craving Autumn

This week’s rain and overcast made autumn seem officially present. The leaves began rustling their final words before leaving their branches and painting the ground in yellow, red, orange and brown. People pulled out sweaters and boots, and noses turned red in the blustery wind and drizzly cool rain.

It was quite perfect, actually. It made me homesick for Oregon – where my heart stayed from my month-long visit this summer, where daily showers are not unusual and people gave you strange looks if you actually carried an umbrella. In Oregon, rain is a part of the culture, a part of what makes the people Oregonians.

The damp Tennessee weather also made me crave some good fall comfort food, like tomato soup and grilled cheese.

I prefer sharp cheddar for the sandwich. The flavor tastes incredible with the whole wheat bread and the soup. I even pour a little bit of milk in my tomato soup, to make it creamy. It’s the perfect dish to have as you stare out the foggy window and daydream.

Until next time,

Beth
