Summer movies run gamut from action to romantic comedy

This summer, theaters will be bombarded with everything from superhero action flicks to sappy love stories. Though not all of them represent the highest quality, critics anticipate a few films. The following are my Top-5 movies of Summer 2012.

 No. 1: “The Dark Knight Rises” (July 20)

I have been waiting to see this movie since its prequel, “The Dark Knight,” released in 2008.  Four years later, my excitement is almost uncontainable.  The action begins eight years after the previous movie’s last scene. [more]

Hamilton named 2011-12 Newell innovative teaching award winner

While most World Literature II students had their noses buried in works by William Blake or Molière, a few were asked to engage with Eastern literature and chronicle their fall break travels, an assignment earning Dr. Patricia Hamilton the Newell Innovative Teaching Award. Hamilton, associate professor of English, said she wanted to be creative in teaching the core English class and asked her students to imitate — an Eastern learning method — instead of simply analyze the work of master storytellers. VIDEO: Hollywood’s most celebrated cars can be seen in Jackson

IfHolly you were going to plan a trip to Jackson, you would be surprised when you checked TripAdvisor. You would not see a recommendation to go to a Jackson Generals baseball game. You would be encouraged to visit the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, but it would not be the top thing on your list. Even the Casey Jones Village had its criticism. Only one venue was rated a 5-star place with the most reviews. Rusty’s TV and Movie Car Museum boasted the top spot on the TripAdvisor leaderboard. The museum received ratings like these.
